One of the best goalkeepers today and officially "Player of the World 2005", Arpad Sterbik (30) announced in interview for Balkan-Handball.com that he will play for national team of Spain for the first time at EURO 2010 in Austria.
Hello, Arpad. You have such a good start in Champions League this year. Ciudad Real beat HSV Hamburg and now, you are on the top of the group table?
– Our group is really tough with two strong opponents, HSV and C.O Zagreb. It was really important to win against HSV in Hamburg, so now, we can be more relaxed, but still, we want to win every game and to be first in group at the end. Then we could have better draw and easier rivals in TOP 16 phase.
What do you think about new model of CL with Final Four tournament at the end?
– Anyway for Ciudad Real and for me also. Champions League winner is always the best team in that year, so new system cant change a lot. The best team will won title. We are playing very brave as a visitors, always want to win. So, it won't be problem to play in Germany, Cologne, but first we need to qualify for that. Than, we will see, who will be on other side.
You have also a good start in ASOBAL. Ciudad Real beat Barcelona in her "Blaugrana".
– Yeah, we won against them. With us, Barcelona is the biggest and only favorite for the championship title. Nothing is done yet, we are in the middle of the season, so, we have to be very carefull in every single match.
Handball public are very interested in your decision to play for Spain national team?
– Yes, I will be available to coach. If everything is ok, if I am fit, I will play on EURO for Spain.
What do you think about Serbian national team and their chances at EURO in Austria?
– With new national coach, Sead Hasanefendic and Dejan Peric at the post, Serbia has a serious team, who is ready for serious results.
