After CL game between Crvena zvezda and HSV Hamburg, Balkan-Handball.com talks with Bertrand Gille(30), one of the best player in this decade and synomim for constistency and brutality in world's handball. Just a few months ago the famous axle Dinart-Gille brought to France Olympic gold, so far Gille now collected all three title in national squad competition. He just need title with HSV (in team from 2002) in Bundesliga and CL to win everything in handball. On first view, very quiet guy, something between monk and wrestler, answered on some of our questions.
What is your comment about tonight game?
– It was not so easy game especially in first half. Anyway, in second part was much better, you could see that on semaphore.
You were not so good in first half. Than, in second half , fresh seven player, „second team" of HSV, get into the court against tired Red Star players and made huge goal-diference.
– That's right. We had a lot of games in the season. Especialy fot this type of matches, Its really important to have in the team players, who are also capable to enter the game and keep same level or make higher.
For you, practicaly Cl stayed only competition. Dreams about winning Bundesliga are finished after only seven rounds of Liga, as we know that you lost many points. Precisely, you lost three times and had one draw.
– We lost a lot of points at the start of Liga. Every time when I am playing, I want to win. I cant tell you how far we can achieve in Liga this year, after that points arrear between as and our rivals. Its long Liga, everybody will losing some points, so personaly, I dont believe, that everything is finished with our ambitions.
In your carrier, you need just CL and BL to win everything possible in handball. With your national team, you won everything and also, you were the world best player 2002…
– I have 5,6 years more to win this two trophies. For sure it's possible, but in front of us is long and tough way.
Handball people are agreed in opinion that you and Dinart developed play in defense to high noon (the top), so much that even handball rules cant do nothing versus you. We are free to call that phenomen „Art of beating"?
– Our defence is one of the reason beucase we became Olympic champions. We pull down two minutes suspension on minimum. That is one of the precondition if you want to win something in top level handball.
Are you thinking about WC in Croatia (january 2009.)?
– Uh, no, really. It is far away from now.
