Nenad Perunicic (Red Star): "Hasanefendic will bring us a medal?"

The headline of the week is of course the selection of a new coach of the Serbian national team, Sead Hasanefendic. What is your opinion of the new coach?

 – Yesterday I found out I am in the Counsel. We have to work on the promotion of handball. Our handball is nowhere. It is the federation's duty to work on that, to do tournaments. Let's do a 'Trophy Belgrade' or 'Trophy Serbia', to resemble what once was 'Trophy Yugoslavia'. So, if the volleyball players could go in the 'Arena', why couldn't we? The federation has a possibility to sustain that financially. I don't know how many people take my critics. When I criticize, firstly I mean the promotion of handball. I don't speak like "you have no idea, you are that sort of a person", but people take it that way. I'm a person who spent 15 years in Europe. I know how they see our handballers. And now we have a chance to have great players in their clubs, to carry the game. Let's take advantage of that.

The coach…

– Those things around the coach are a little bit strange to me. If Hasanefendic came, what does that mean? Means that we're going after a medal? That responsibility, must absolutely exist! We changed Cvetkovic, because we had doubts that he might bring us a medal. So we brought a coach that can bring us a medal? That sort of responsibility must exist in the Federation and at the coach too. Let's not do anything in Austria, and then excuse ourselves 'we're creating a team for London'. That doesn't work anymore, and I won't take that. Those guys in the team have 26,27 years. So we won't lie ourselves that we wait for London. We already made a team and we have it for three years. I personally, respect Hasanefendic as a coach, and his qualities arent doubtful. He came here, because he promises that he can bring a medal. So he must take that responsibility. We can't hide anymore behind other things. I read the statement of Tuta Zivkovic which said that he 'guarantees a medal with this team in Austria'. Then we should have given the coaching role to him, because he guarantees a medal. Some things just seem strange to me, with him… and I'm not being subjective. Jovica Cvetkovic is my friend. He made a team that seems to love their own country, love their coat of arms, sing their anthem and 'dies' on the field every game. They made an image of a 'fighting' team, they filled the halls. I think it is no good that they changed him before the European Championship, where a medal was to be expected. Only that. I don't speak against Hasanefendic. If we changed the coach then we brought another that should bring us a medal. We should see on that like that. If a responsibility is not taken, if that does not happen, then we're fooling ourselves…
